Our team was selected to complete the full demolition of the historic University Avenue Ford Building, a prominent 1914 structure located at 117 University Ave. W. near the State Capitol. Once a sub-assembly plant and showroom, the building had remained vacant for over two decades before the State of Minnesota determined it was no longer feasible to rehabilitate.The project required careful planning and execution due to the building’s age, size, and close proximity to the Capitol and surrounding infrastructure. In addition to structural demolition, our team performed complex tunnel identification, stabilization, and sealing work to protect adjacent underground systems and ensure the safety and integrity of nearby government facilities. Demolition was successfully completed on February 5, 2024, using advanced excavation and material handling techniques to maintain efficiency while minimizing disruption to the area. Following demolition, the site is being redeveloped into green space, parking, and pedestrian-friendly walkways, contributing to a more accessible and enhanced Capitol environment. This project demonstrates our ability to manage technically challenging urban demolition projects with precision, safety, and attention to critical infrastructure.
